Not a good year to visit Glacier NP

Reservations for individual campsites at Fish Creek and Many Glacier are made through Recreation.gov.

The St. Mary and Rising Sun Campgrounds will not be open in the summer of 2021, due to staffing limitations resulting from ongoing COVID-19 mitigations.

Other campgrounds within the park are operated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • I agree that for us, it would be a good year to visit. The visitor number will be way down so we could actually get a parking spot. We would arrive by 11:00 am and be standing in line to get a camp site for about 3 or 4 days. A camper occupying a site has until 11:30 to renew their site. If they don't do it by 11:30, I can take the site for up to the maximum allowable stay. The departing occupant has until noon to leave.
We have gotten campsites with this method in Glacier, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon, plus many National Forest areas.
  • Might be a good year to visit Glacier since it appears that cross Canadian travel will be a no go again. That means less crowding in the campgrounds since Canadian RVers are a significant percentage of the RV traffic at Glacier due to proximity. Add in the fact there likely won't be international visitations in the Rental RVs and all you will have to fight are the 3 million or so fellow American RVers.

  • Thanks for the heads up. Labor shortages all over the country.
