Odetah Campground

My brother and our parents each have campers and they like to go away together. Last year it was Lake George RV Park and we had a blast. My brother and his wife are 41 and the boys are 7 and 5. Our parents are mid 60's.

We were considering Knoebel's this year but were concerned that our parents would get bored. Is there anything else in the surrounding area that's interesting for them?

We were also consdiering Odetah and Strawberry Park but are leaning towards Odetah. I know our parents would enjoy hitting the casinos one or two days so everything wasn't kiddie oriented.

What are some good sites at Odetah? We're looking for full hookups.
  • If you come to CT with the same camping expectations as some of the previous mentioned campgrounds, you will be disappointed... In CT you get an awful lot less for your camping dollar.

  • Never been to any but I am trying to figure out how grandparents would get bored watching their children and grandchildren having a great time together.
  • I have been to each at least a dozen times. For casinos They are both close Foxwoods and Mohegan. For kids activities I don't think you can beat Strawberry Park. There is something for the kids to do from 8am to 8pm. When checking in you will receive a couple pages of activities. Like THIS. My two kids would have different color highlighters and Mark things they wanted to do. I have stayed at those noisy sites right on the highway at Odetah and they $uck.
  • DW & I did Odetah a few years ago and thought it was a nice cg. We don't do casinos but we did visit Mystic Seaport, the Nautilus museum, shopping, took a schooner ride, and a few more attractions. We're middle age and no kids but we thought Odetah was worth a trip in itself.
Yes, we had a "graywater only" site but we can easily go a week before filling the black tank. If needed, a pumper service is also available.
Never been to Lake George, we prefer more primitive camping if we're in the Adirondacks.
  • Demoon is right with regards to Lake George RV Park. it's top notch and Strawberry Park and Odetah are not in the same league for facilities or amenities.

To the north of Long Island, Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA is comparable to Lake George RV Park.

To the south of Long Island, you may want to consider Frontiertown in Ocean City, Maryland. Not polished like Lake George or Normandy, but great rv park with great amenities, superb location, and plenty to keep kids and parents busy for a great vacation.
  • Have been to both Strawberry Park and Odetah. Just an observation, I would not consider either one close to the quality of Lake George RV Park. They do have a lot of activities going on and are very kid oriented. Odetah has a lot of seasonals and Strawberry Park is expensive.
Things to do that are not strictly kid oriented: Mystic Seaport Maritime Museum, Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Village Outlet Shopping, Submarine Force Museum, etc.

We were frequent campers at Odetah, I always booked site 17, large, private pull through site. Sorry though it was only W/E gray water but I thought it was one of the best sites at the campground. You could check if they offer a honey wagon service.

There are full hook up sites, just be aware, all the sites on the far left side of the campground map are feet away from very busy highway.
