Painting Hills - John Day Fossil Beds - OR

On the SW corner of the Painted Hills Park is a free campground....and another just outside the north edge. Says tents...don’t know if RVs are OK or not. This, according to my AllStays Camp and RV ap. You really ought to have something like this.....

There is a city park in Mitchell. Might be tight for you if there is anyone else when you get there. 30 amp and one water spigot. Has about six spots. $20 (?) night. No AT&T service. Driveway drops off the road fast so be careful.

There is a lot of boondock sites north of Sumpter.

There are lot of ghost towns in the area to explore if you want something more to do.

There is a good boondocking spot on the road to Painted Hills. Its on the left, about a mile in next to the creek. There is room for several large Riggs. Its BLM land and there are a few shade trees. We camped there with about 20 other riggs to watch the solar eclipse last year.

There are a number of BLM boondocking sites surrounding the Painted Hills:

Bridge Creek
Old Logging Road
Hidden Springs
Rocky Road
Manning Pasture
Stovepipe Springs

Found them on Ultimate Campgrounds

Some are more suitable for larger rigs than others, so scope them out on Google Earth first.
