Park status sound off.

Seems every winter we post this, so might as well keep the cycle of knowledge going. "How full is your park now that the holidays are over?"

Needless to say if your park is RV's that never move, then it will be pretty static (as in "full".) I'm asking only those that are in non owner parks that have transient slots during the year. Reason being when you're in an owner park, the residents have a vested interest in using there slot. They're "loosing money" if they don't use them.

I'm in deep south Texas. I'm seeing a very large number of open spots. Five years ago we were full after the holidays. Each year it seems like more and more spots are coming available. Rumor is there is over 150 open spots out of 600 this winter. There is no way those can all be Canadians either (due to their dollar exchange.)

Texas isn't know for their great weather, but the price reflects it. So I'm guessing that isn't the real reason for the declining rate, but then maybe it is. :h

Looks like it's 90% owner if I'm reading the map correctly.

Our park in the RGV is suffering from this same thing. Ours is an ownership park and when people get sick and no longer come down, they just seem to abandon their places here. So we have a lot of empty park models and no chance of them being filled. We don't have a rental pool, although a few are rented by the owners through a resident in the park. Because there aren't people occupying those places for the entire winter, that means fewer people to volunteer to do the things around the park that need to be done.

Our activities are shuffleboard, pool, golf, cards, cards, cards, more cards, and did I mention cards? Also corn hole, horsehoes, pegs and jokers, and an occasional dinner or potluck. Nothing that interests me. The jams are populated by old performers who could never carry a tune, don't know what it is to keep time, etc. Terrible does not even cover it. Tonight we had outside entertainment that was excellent. A song writer/guitar player, another guitar and a standup base player. Only about 25 people showed up. The performance was professional and superb. But it's definitely "newer" type entertainment and not what the old guard is looking for.

They want more people in the park to "participate" i.e., do the work, but they don't want any change at all. They vote down everything anyone tries to do. We find ourselves drifting off to neighboring parks for their activities.

Not willing or did they decide it wasn't worth the effort to try and join when the "powers that be" met every question or suggestion with a "we tried that 20 yrs ago" answer, even when the technology/ solution wasn't available 20 yrs ago?

Bingo, we have as winner ---- You hit the nail on the head. I am not in the "younger" class, but I stepped up to bat at the local American Legion and that is what I kept running into. So when they asked me to take another office, I passed and this year I will drop my membership all together.

It appears from the website that this is an owner park or am I misreading that since they also list rent at $350/month. :h

Sunscape RV Resort near Casa Grande, AZ. My wife and I work here in the winter. She is the activity director and I'm in the office. I'd say 95% full. Have people making reservations for the 2016/2017 season.

It could be a lot of the older clientele does not want change and happy with the way it is. The problem with that is as they die off so does the park. I seen that happen to a lot of clubs such as American Legion, and other lodges. They look at younger people as outsiders.

This is the part I don't understand, they have to KNOW that they will need younger people to replenish ranks, so why go out of their way to antagonize those who want to come aboard?

I don't know. In my town the Moose lodge was sold and is now a church. The Masonic lodge was sold and now a night club. In Ely the American legion building was sold.

If you don't replenish the ranks you run out of people. Maybe that's the way its meant to be.

Where my seasonal is at we have people from there 30's to there 80's and we enjoy each others companionship.
