Penn State area camping

Hello All,

We are kicking around the idea of heading to the Penn State game over labor day weekend, but rather than stay at Grange like we have in the past, we were considering finding a campground a bit further north so that we could do some other things on Friday and Sunday. Problem is obviously finding an open site (KOA already booked). We were thinking maybe toward Elk county so we could go view the elk herd, or something with water where I could fish or kayak, etc. Most of our PA camping is in the NE poconos, so for those familiar with central and N Central PA, recommend some nice campgrounds with hookups not much further than 30-40 minutes from the stadium. We have 3 kids with us so things like pool and other activities are great, but we are also big fans of the state park feel (shaded, fishing, etc.) Thanks!

We stay at Gram and Paps every year at Easter. It's decent and it's close to State College. Also as mentioned, Bald Eagle and Moshannon are nice as well. If you want full hookups at State parks, you probably won't get one unless you book ahead quite a while. They are very popular and there aren't many to choose from. Other State Park sites with electric are doable as well if you don't mind filling the water tank and using the dump station. State Park shower houses are generally pretty nice if that's a consideration.

We stayed here a few times. FHU, easy access to I80 and 99.

Also, the KOA has been redone. Haven't been there since but my sis who lives in Bellefonte says it looks nice from the road ๐Ÿ™‚

There are 2 Pa state parks within a half hour of Penn State. Black Moshanon is a little closer. Campsites with electric hookups. Was there many years but don't remember too much about it. The other is Bald Eagle Lake State Park. We stayed there last year.Beautiful campground with some electric and some full hookups. Nice lake with beach.
