Pensacola - Barrancas Cemetery

Question

We'll be in the Pensacola area next week and would like to stop at the Barrancas Cemetery on the Naval Air Station to visit the grave of my husband's brother.  We don't have a tow car, so we're wondering if we could drive our motorhome into the cemetery.  The cemetery office is closed for the weekend, so does anyone in the Pensacola area know what the rules are? Or, is there a place we could park the motorhome and walk in?   If not, do you know of a campground near there where we could stop for the night and get a cab ride or rental car for a few hours?  Thanks for your help.  Tracy

You'll be fine.  The cemetery is about 1 mile from the Naval Museum. You might be OK in the parking lot for the cemetery if it isn't busy.  It's not really set up for long vehicles but if no one else is visiting you should be OK.  If the designated parking lot is occupied there are lots nearby which shouldn't be occupied on the weekend.  Worst case if you're able to walk a bit is you can park at the Naval Museum.

Oak grove is a small but nice campground that is a short distance from the cemetery.   You might want to goggle it and try to obtain a reservation.  Also, the aviation museum is a must see while you are in the area..  Hope this helps.

Only military (Active, National Guard, Reservists, Retired, 100% DAV) and DoD Civilians.

Wadcutter, thanks for the detailed information.  That is just what we needed to know.  We'll just park at the museum if we can't find room at the cemetery.    Tracy

There's a large parking lot just south of the cemetery and another one on the west side. On the weekend they'll will probably be empty and would fit the longest rigs. You might be able to drive the roads within the cemetery but I hate to suggest that if you're tall. I don't recall how many low tree branches you'd encounter.
We may be there next week too. It's a very nice base.
