Pensacola Beach Campgrounds suggestions

I tried to post this earlier have no idea where it went..Ha! Lost in Cyber Land!
We are planning a trip to Pensacola Beach to visit Naval Museum.
DH was stationed there decades ago.
I have seen several campgrounds but having trouble deciding which will work best.
1. Is a Resort and rates are high! 2. Looks nice but newer with no Bath House facilities. They do have full hook ups, however. 3. Seems to be an in town C/G.
I have read reviews but always appreciate this site and your in puts.
Thank You .
Happy Camping! safe Travels!
  • Your original post is still on here, I just replied to it a few minutes ago. I did not understand that you were asking about a compground, so I replied in ref to the Museum. When we were there last year, we stayed at Gulf Shores State Park, and had a great time. Short drive to the Museum. Did not stay at any of the other campgrounds, but wherever, you really need to make advance reservations ASAP. For pictures, check out my reply to your other post.
  • Are you still military eligible? the Blue Angle's Recreation Camp, is the old sea plane base off 98 east of town 20 per night no wifi. its a 10 minute drive to the museum. it's right on the beach with full hookups. we stayed there three nights 2 weeks ago. the campground on base was full, and crowded.

  • We have stayed at the Pensacola KOA (actually in Lillian AL) a couple of times. It does not have a lot of bell and whistles, but not a bad CG overall.
  • Another vote for Fort Pickens. We have camped there many times and love it.
  • If your main goal is to visit the museum at the naval base then Big Laggon state park is the closest to the navy base if your not military. It is a very nice park with water and Eletric hookups. One of our favorite campgrounds
  • Of course, Fort Pickens is right across the sound from the Naval Air Station, but quite a distance by road. Still, that is where I would stay.

I wonder if anyone else on this forum has stayed at Fort Pickens when it was still a Flordia state park. Our first visit was in 1962 and I have no idea how many times we have been back there
  • We were at Ft. Pickens in 1989, before the hurricane. What a difference.

And the Blue Angel Military campground fills up fast. Best make reservations.
