Pensacola, FL .. Big Lagoon area

We'll be camping at Big Lagoon SRA at the end of June for about a week. We're looking for things to do in the area within an hour or so. Any restaurant recommendations - we don't do seafood is the kicker.

So far we're heading to:
Perdido Key for swimming
Naval Aviation Museum
  • The Naval Aviation Museum and
    Seville Quarter are good stops.
It'll take most all of a day to see the museum (its free), and Seville Quarter has several restaurants and bars all in one long building. I highly recommend both. When the Blue Angels are in town, they practice behind the museum and there are bleachers for visitors to watch.
I was stationed in Pensacola from '69 to '71. The museum was a small building behind the Enlisted Men's Club back then. The guy that owns Seville Quarter started "Rosie O'Grady's Warehouse" in downtown Pensacola. He was a navy pilot that got caught in the downsizing and turned an empty warehouse downtown into "Rosie O'Gradys". They served pitchers of beer and baskets of peanuts in the shell and had a dixieland band that played. Just one big party every night. If you didn't throw the shells on the floor, the waiters would do it for you.
    Check the above links.
On Edit: I forgot to mention - no firearms on the base. The gate guard will hold them for you while you're there.
  • Almost at the gate to Big Lagoon is a restaurant called
'Triggers'..........doesn't LOOK like much, but is FINE.

To the west of Big Lagoon a mile or so is a high rise bridge
over the intracoastal waterway, to Perdido Key. About 5 miles
further west, near the Alabama line,is FloraBama, a bar/restaurant
on the beach........you MUST go in and look around, and I
recommend a beer and a burger-type lunch. Anywhere along
the beach is FINE for swimming or sunning.....P M me for more
    if you wish.
  • We're definitely heading to the museum but as far as I know the Blue Angels have canceled all events including practices.

We're definitely going to be swimming - just looking for any alternatives that we should do while in the area. Last year we were there for a wedding and couldn't explore very much.

Seville Quarter looks like fun but we'll have our kids with us so that probably won't be the best choice.

Triggers looks like a seafood restaurant which we really dislike):

FloraBama looks like a great burger/beer lunch stop!
