You might enjoy a day trip to Mackinac Island. You can take your bikes on the ferry and ride all the way around the island with zero motor vehicles present. Very pretty and peaceful.
The Mackinaw Bridge is a sight to behold. Mackinaw City has a historic fort and plenty of little shops to walk around in. Also a lighthouse. Be sure to stop at the local bakery if you like pecan rolls or homestyle cinnamon bread.
Charlevoix is another picturesque tourist town. And the Leelanau Peninsula is worth a drive up to the state park at its tip. Oh, and north of Empire there is a tiny lake called Bar Lake that is warm for swimming; it is just a hundred yards or so from Lake Michigan but is cut off by a sand bar, thus its name.

Liberty is meaningless where the right to utter one's thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. --Frederick Douglass
