Portland to Casa Grande route

We have used that route several times. It is a good route but just watch the weather as said above. If we go to Az this year we will take that route.

We live in central Washington and have traveled that route for the last 10 years from Nov 1 to Jan 1. Only once did we hit much snow and that was in Jackpot Nv. Delayed our start a couple hours in the morning and it was melted off the road. Normally only places to watch is the Blue Mountains and the high desert from Jackpot to Ely Nv. Going a week early this year and checked weather forecast and not even any freezing weather forecast.

Why is everyone talking about going up I-40 to I-17 before heading south? From Las Vegas take US 95 south until you get to Blythe, then turn east on I-10 until Buckeye, then take AZ 85 south to Gila Bend then I-8 east again to Casa Grande. That will avoid ALL of the Phoenix traffic.

If you are going to Mesa, then take US 93 out of Las Vegas and head to Kingman, east on I-40 for about 10 miles and then south on US 93 towards Wickenburg. After you go through Wickenburg, look for AZ 74, which cuts over to I-17, then south on I-17 to the 101 loop which will take you to the East Valley.

I am looking at options from North of Seattle to the East Valley of Phoenix. The 93 route thru Nevada is the shortest one. We leave however after Christmas, so weather is a bigger concern for us.

You can stay here the first night www.malheurcountyfair.com on Passport America, next stop would be Casino in Jackpot Nevada or Wells.

We also like Farewell Bend State Park if you can get in the back with a view of the river. Well the trains also!!!

We also are getting very tired of the potholes on I-5 and 99 in California. The California route is 9 miles shorter, however with the slower tower speed limit in California it way be fast thru Nevada.

From the Central Oregon coast we cut directly across through Bend Oregon to Burns where we cut south to get to Highway 95 which essentially takes us down to Las Vegas, and from there on to Casa Grande. We have heard that 93 further east is also a good RV route down to Las Vegas. Either way is good. We have a 35' Class A with toad.
The only thing I hate about not taking I-5 south through California is that over the Cascades mountains ODOT uses volcanic cinders on the roads when the roads are icey and that **** gets stuck all over the RV and toad. My advice, wash it off quickly if this happens to you, before it dries. It can scratch the paint!

We took that route to go from Seattle to the Las Vegas/Grand Canyon area this past March and would do so again in a heartbeat (especially over taking the dreaded I-5) as long as weather (snow) wasn't an issue.

Dave we take 93 all the time to Los Vegas , the only thing I would do is we you get to Ely Nevada you take the hwy 6 to the 318 this route is hour shorter. Hwy 93 and the 6 and 318 are excellent 2 lane hwy,s .

As far whether you could have some early winter storms , I would think be ok just monitor the whether if you are concern about it.

Davet I checked my Truck Road Atlas, and 93 is used by Large Trucker's, so the road is big enough for your RV, Diesel should be on your route, I haven't used 93, When I go to Casa Grande I use 395 south, then 40 east to 17 south.. Let know how it goes, I may take it the next time we go to AZ
