Quiet Gulf coast RV park

We're looking to head south in early Feb. and are looking for a quiet/out of the way place to spend a few weeks. Florida or Alabama is fine even the west coast of Florida. Any suggestions would be welcome.
  • X2 on the panhandle weather. Can get cold and icey a lot during the winter months. I would move down just a little further south.

I am just outside Ocala on the west side and the weather in north central florida is only around 10 degrees cooler than let's say Ft Lauderdale but it is REAL nice area. I use to to further south but once I found out about this area I have never gone back!

Rock Crusher CG is also very close to Dunnellon where Rainbow Springs is. Just spectacular and you can kayak, canoe or raft down it. They also have a CG. There is also Goethe SP, etc. There are a lot of hidden gem CG's in this area. And just an hour or so trip to the Gulf Shores. Shhhh, don't tell everyone!
  • Thanks to all who took time to share their knowledge. Some great information. Rock Crusher Canyon looks like a nice spot.

My suggestion to your question is Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park in Crystal River, FL. The park has a lot of trees and ground cover between most sites along with FHUs and excellent cable. The sites are not paved, but most are fairly level. The Crystal River area is a lot less crowded than your typical tourist areas of Alabama, the FL panhandle, or areas south of Tampa. The area doesn't have much in the way of beaches, but it is near the coast and the seafood availability is great. It's great for kayaking, fishing, golf, and sightseeing. It's about 70 miles north of the Tampa area.

With that said, February is a busy month for most campgrounds in FL. If you're interested I'd call very soon. We'll be there for a couple of months this winter. Their website is below.

I stayed at Rock Crusher Canyon two years ago. It was a pretty nice campground. It wasn't crowded and the managers were pretty nice.
  • You've got many good ones to choose from. Atlantic Oaks in Biloxi Mississippi; several in Gulf Shores Alabama, including Anchors Aweigh; and many more in the panhandle of Fla. I've found rvparkreviews.com to be pretty reliable. Camp on!
  • I like Live Oak Landing in Freeport FL in the panhandle. About 10 miles to the beach.
Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs FL is beautiful and quiet.
Farther south, I like Rainbow Springs State Park in Dunnellon FL. There is a 14 night maximum stay. If they are not booked after 14 days you might be able to extend.
In Williston FL, Williston Crossings is nice.
