Texas Gulf Coast

we are in Rockport, TX. We have been chilly of late but supposed to warm up next week. Dec. weather is always iffy! Last year was cool and wet, the year before sunny and mid 60's. Lots to do and the RV parks are filling up with winter texans. feel free to PM us if you have ?'s or need more info.

Go east to Florida is my advice. Being a Florida person stuck in the Houston area I can tell you that there isn't a nice beach here and the weather sucks, today it's not going to hit 55. Port A isn't going to get to 60 today either. I've been to a bunch of beaches here in TX and none have nice water or amenities or even compare to the most marginal beaches in FL.

Hit Ft Desoto for a week then head down to the Glades...you will have a blast with some great people (good luck finding great people in texas), great weather, great beaches and great scenery.

I've been to Florida quite a few times the last couple of years and was really trying to find something different. I really like the panhandle area and will go there if I can't find some place new...thanks for the replys Lynn,

I vote Texas too. From the RGV to Brownsville, lots of great places, wonderful beaches to walk on and to fish.

Right now in Texas, we're having freezing nights and cold, rainy days. December is anybody's guess with the weird weather we've been getting the past couple of years. My wife and I go to the Florida Keys every spring, where warm, stable weather is more of a guarantee (such as weather ever can be). I'm between Houston and San Antonio and the cold fronts make it down to Matagorda. But if the weather's nice, Texas is a great place for early winter outdoors activity! Down the coast by Corpus Christi and further south should be nicer all winter.

I was in Tx one year and it was 93 degrees on Christmas day.

I was in Rockport a few years back and there was an ice storm. So cold that they had rolling black outs due to the high electrical use. BTW if you are in TX and the roads get slick due to ice and/or snow travel out at your own peril. :B

Last year in Houston, all major highways were closed a couple of times around Christmas time due to ice. Overpasses are impassible since the state doesn't keep de-icing chemicals or salt in any quantity. A little ice and it's all over until the weather warms. Had some extra vacation days from work at least!

We were here that year and also in 2004 when there was an inch of snow. Just bad luck as on an average normal basis Dec/Jan are very pleasant! This is why it is becoming harder and harder to get a RV spot during the winter.
