We are considering a trip to the Texas Gulf Coast this summer. And yes, I do know it may be a little warm. We are thinking about starting at South Padre Island and slowly moving east. We are not sure how far we will go past Galveston, it just depends on how much we are enjoying the area we are in. We will probably stay in RV Parks so we can run the AC in our Fleetwood Excursion and use their swimming pools. We have a Jeep Wrangler TOAD to go out exploring. I am looking for some special places that should not be missed and the places that we should avoid. JH

Lots to see and do along the coast.The USS Lexington in Corpus would be high on my list to redo.But I spent some time on her sister ship, the USS Hancock, back in the day.

We enjoyed the Gladys Porter Zoo and if your interested in shooting Massey's gun shop is an interesting visit.

Also the Iwo Jima Memorial in Harlingen, Tx

Been to Fredericksburg twice now. First time did a drive thru by car on our way to my son's base near Destin, Florida. (Now there is an awesome place!). Loved the PWR. Next time, in the RV, we stayed at Wine Country Jellystone. New park. Loved it. Spent enough time to really see the area. Really liked LBJ's spread near there. Labor Day to mid November sounds great. Like to be back to So Cal by Thanksgiving.

Last trip we hit real strong winds going out mid-February & returning late May. Typically, how do the winds typically compare October/November?

I got so much rust on my trailer and truck after my last visit to the coast, I'll never stay on the beach again. And it only took 7 days.

How crowded are the private RV parks likely to be this time of year? What is the best time of year to visit the area - both from a weather & a crowd perspective? My son is being transferred to Lackland AFB in San Antonio this August. We're likely to visit in September.

Don'the know if it is the area you are looking at, but Bandera is a neat little town. Cowboy capital of the World. Stayed at Skyline Ranch and highly recommend it. Went to Lost Maples State Park, story behind tgat. A motorcycle on the way out there was very interesting with good food. Camp Verde on the way from Bandera to Kerrville was interesting. Fredrick burg was interesting.

Gulf Coast Rv park, west side of Beaumont, Right off I-10 was nice.

Corpus was one of my favorite trips because of the Lexington. Its definitely on my redo list as well

I started my trip camping at Goose Island State park and decided we should move further south to mustang island. Ended up spending an extra day around corpus exploring all the fun things around there

While in the San Antonio area I hope you can include a stay at Fredericksburg. On the way, Boerne and Luckenbach and an easy drive over to Kerrville. If you like state parks, I would recommend Inks Lake back over toward Burnet (pronounced Burn it, durn it).

Thank you all for the suggestions, I will add these to my list. So far the only things we had were;
The Bat Bridge
The River Walk
The Alamo
A day trip to Austin
South Padre Island
Mustang Island
Galveston
Beach Fishing
I will research the above ideas and continue building my list.

I am also open to favorite Tex-Mex, Mexican, Seafood and BBQ Restaurants if you have any. JH
