Recommendations for camping at Richmond, Va NASCAR race

I'm trying to plan a trip to Richmond, Va for the April race. I'm picking up my new Jayco Jayflight 31qbds next week. Just wondered if anyone had recommendations for which track campground to stay in? Any tips for this track? I've camped at Charlotte, Bristol, Dover and Pocono in TT and TC, so I'm not a newbie at this just don't know this track. Thanks for any help. -Carey

WOO! WOO! We ARE going to Richmond after all!!
I got out of the shower this afternoon and the wife says "while you were in the shower someone from Richmond raceway called and they have one site available with hook-ups and you need to call back ASAP". HUH? WHAT? She said we were on the waiting list and there's one site available. Uh, I'm not sure we want to pay for it, but I'll call. Yes m'aam 1 site in North Laburnam for $217? We'll take it. Can I keep it for the rest of my life?? Yes sir you can. After we gave credit card info and hung up, we looked at each other and said "it has water & elect for $217?? Well maybe she said 270. No matter, it's a short walk to the stands. We'll call back tomorrow for seats.
Now we have somewhere to go this spring.

That's typical of most tracks.....and most other events too that draw over 20,000 fans. Getting in is slow but getting OUT is downright painful. Some places both ways are bad. St. Louis comes to mind.

I think any of the Geico lots would be fine (in red on the map).
I stay in Laburnum 19B because it's easy in, easy out and is far enough away from the track to take an afternoon nap while practice is going on. Of course, that means you walk a bit farther to get to the track.

You should be able to get a site on property. The sites with hookups are very expensive and I believe they have a waiting list.
We have stayed in Lot J at least twice. Dry camping. No issues if you go there knowing that and are prepared. The track provides mobil RV pump outs for waste tanks and also has a water truck to fill your RV tank. I think maybe $50 for each. Bring your own drinking water. Also have showers available. There are trailers pulled by pickup trucks that shuttle you from the campground to the track. Works great. I never waited more than 5 minutes for the next shuttle.
It works well. I wouldn't pay for an expensive private campground myself.
RIR is my favorite track. Not too big, not too little. Wish we were going this year, but we're doing the truck race at Eldora and whatever else I can cram in our schedule at last minute.
Try the Chili Bowl in Tulsa sometime. Plan early. Sells out fast.

In case you wind up unable to get a spot at the raceway, Pocahontas State Park is nearby as well.

There is camping available with power right there onsite at RIR. Stayed there a few times for a Scottish Highland Games festival.

Been there; going back again this year. I was satisfied with the "no services" spaces I've had.

Alas, I'm at Atlanta now and don't have my records with me....and my present Internet connection is slow.

There are 2 Cg's north of the track on I-95 one of them is across from Kings Dominion Amusement Park, the other is a Travel America, it is quite a bit closer to the track. We have stayed at the Kings Dominion one and it was great. Not sure about the Travel America, we heard its not that great but I guess if your just going for the race you should be ok. We plan on going to the Night Race for Richmond. If you choose the one closest to the track let us know how it is if you would. And Congrat's on the new rig. ... Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!
