Attempting to camp IN Yellowstone is probably way more trouble than it's worth considering all the good campgrounds right outside the Park. At West Yellowstone there are a number of good private campgrounds and even a National Forest Campground just a couple miles to the north - - with water, trash pickup - and even electricity at about half the sites.

At least think about not having to stay in the park.

i watched the little movie and Fishing Bridge is the only one with hookups. problem solved

doing a quick look-see. it doesn't look like very many parks actually have electric hookups. i have sleep apnea and have to have power. is Fishing Bridge the only one with power hookup?

camping at different places is ok, but you have to make reservations for them if you want to be sure to have a place when you want it.
the park is very big, about 80 x 80 miles square.
there are two large loop roads, forming a rough figure 8. Each loop requires at least one full day to get around and see some things as you go. Better to figure two days for each loop if time allows.
If I was planning it, I'd stay in Madison (they have water and a dump station and lots of shade.
and then I'd move over to Fishing Bridge if you want some electricity, or Canyon or Bridge Bay if you don't really feel the need for elec. Bridge Bay also has water and a dump station. Not sure about Canyon.
These campgrounds are sort of middle in the park so you can make the loops easily enough.
But make the reservations as soon as you can.

we are looking at next year (i hear you need to get reservations early) and we're looking for places to camp in 30' class c. we don't need full hookups, just a place to get water and dump occasionally.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by camping....there's camping at the various campsites in Yellowstone - some have services most don't. On the back page of the seasonal newspaper is a list of the campgrounds and what they provide. My favorite one of these is Mammoth, but you have to get to these places early in the day cause they fill up fast.
