Reno camping

Wanting to visit Reno relatives. Are there good RV sites within 10-20 miles of town? I am researching costs, amenities, convenience to Reno, etc. Not finding the cost of the Boomtown KOA...I'll bet I can do better. Recommendations and websites appreciated.

We don't go to casino's. We're just going to visit relatives. A good, clean, quiet campground is what we want.

Gold Ranch is now owned by Truckee Gaming but agree on your choices in the Reno/Sparks area.

Our home base is Reno and we stayed at Gold Ranch in early May with some friends and their rig before we left on our current extended trip.
  • Terrible's Gold Ranch (in Verdi) is the nicest, prettiest, and cleanest. Sparks is second, and close to shopping/eating, but not pretty.
  • You might look at BORDERtown RV Resort - about 10 miles west of Reno just into NV from CA. We stopped there for an overnight last year - nice clean sites, washroom, laundry. Like many, on the grounds of a (small) casino - had a nice simple meal there - quite reasonable. ST
  • I stayed at boomtown - once. The only good part about it was Cabela's across the street. I won't camp there again.
  • If you want a downtown location, then I recommend the silver Sage. It is directly across the street from the Peppermill Casino on S Virginia St and has many nice restaurants close by. Very easy drive to the center of Reno.
  • We have camped at both KOA Boomtown and Grand Sierra RV parks. I would not recommend either. They are asphalt parking lots next to a casino. Not very picturesque. We are still on a quest to find a NICE RV park in the Reno area. It is usually our last stop of our 2 week summer vacation, we will try yet another next summer.
  • We enjoyed River's Edge RV Park. The only downside is that it is under the final approach to the airport. Didn't bother us although it sure would have had they been taking off. The flights stopped around 9 pm.
  • Grand sierra resort casino has an RV park. Centrally located near the I-80 and 395 junction. There is another in Sparks, Sparks marina RV park. My favorite though is the gold ranch casino and RV park in Verdi which is west of town about ten miles I think. Its at the edge of town so It is more rural and open with some pine trees. The KOA is just a big parking lot.
  • There are several RV parks. You might look at Gold Ranch about 10 miles west of Reno, Boomtown KOA about 9 miles west of Reno and there is also a very nice RV park in Sparks, just east of Reno. KOA's usually list their prices on their web pages.
