I didn't see it posted anywhere, so I thought I would relay this info.

The Rough Fire, started by lightning on July 31 in the Sierra National Forest north of the Kings River, has grown dramatically in the last two weeks. It is now over 42,000 acres and is 3% contained. It has jumped the Kings River and HWY 180, and it is now threatening the Hume Lake Christian Camp and surrounding cabins. The camp, campgrounds, and cabins have been evacuated. Cedar Grove was evacuated last week. It burned the Historic Kings Canyon Lodge yesterday. Most of the Hume Lake Ranger District in the Sequoia National Forest has been closed, and HWY 180 is closed at the General Grant Tree turn off in Grant Grove, Kings Canyon NP. Forest access roads off the Generals Highway going to Sequoia NP have been closed, also.

This fire is also threatening Pacific Gas and Electric facilities at Balch Camp, east of Pine Flat Lake, along the fire's northwest boundary. Several small mountain communities are on evacuation notice, as well.

Containment has been nearly impossible due to the extremely rugged geography of the area. Kudos to the firefighters and the effort they are putting into fighting this fire.

ETA: Mods, feel free to move this if you think there is a more appropriate section.
