We love Terlingua, TX...and nearby Big Bend National Park. We've been three times. The Park is never crowded and the views are varied and beautiful. We stayed at an RV park...Study Butte RV...across from the rv park is the short road to Terlingua, a really neat little town, part of which is designated a Ghost Town. The Starlight Theater is actually a restaurant with good steaks..and it joins a Trading Post where sometimes there are locals on the front porch, telling "tales" or playing guitars and singing.
From Terlingua to Persidio on the River Road is a scenic (and sometimes breathtaking) drive.
The last time we were there, we went over into Boquillas, a little Mexican village. We felt perfectly safe, as it is just a small village with one dirt road...handmade souvenirs...and a restaurant where you can get freshly made tamales and tacos. We crossed the Rio Grand in rowboats, and were serenaded by a man singing "Cielito Lindo", then we rode donkeys into the village.
