San Diego area St. Pk.
We just returned from a “Oh my god I can’t stand it anymore trip to San Diego”. I had to sleep somewhere else other than near the neighbor’s dogs. DW checked Google Earth and found a site at Silver Strand St. Pk. in San Diego. It is a parking lot and it is not level, there was a late model Hurricane with the front wheels of the ground. The showers are across the highway(pedestrian tunnel available) in the aquatic center, nice and free. It was cool weather but the waves were fantastic(DW’s comment). Most fun things were paying about $35 for oceanfront site(CA Handicapped St. Pk. Pass). Lots and lots of locals, most appeared to be Vet’s from Nam or earlier, fun happy group. Easy access to highways and Downtown San Diego. Coronado Business District had lots of shops.
Very relaxing and quiet and if you don’t mind the trainees from the AmFib base having training exercises at night out on the water with automatic weapon firing and all. I didn’t think it was worth the 3 hour drive from the Pasadena Rose Bowl area but the DW did. The big draw back for me was the lack of natural surroundings, I have a hard time walking on sand and hate walking in parking lots and that’s all there is there.
