Another place not mentioned is the Alameda Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. It is very convenient, quiet and safe. It is a gravel parking lot with full hookup (bring long sewer hose as they are in the rear of the space), tight spaces but only $30/night. New bathrooms and with easy access to freeway. I have stayed there numerous times when I visit family or passing through to Southern California. You can drive a short distance to the Bart station and take it into the city. Petaluma KOA would be my second choice if I didn't stay in a park in S.F. Sonoma County will be starting a train service from Santa Rosa to San Rafael early next year or you can take the shuttle mentioned above or Golden Gate Transit bus that stops at most of the Car pool parking lots along the freeway. If you stay at the Santa Rosa fairgrounds, you can also take the Airport Express bus which picks up close to the fairground entrance (would need to drive but has easy parking) to S.F. Airport and catch BART back to S.F. Just some ideas.
