San Francisco Campgrounds

X3 on Petaluma KOA! Very nice, very clean. We stayed there in September, took their city tour. That was worth EVERY penny!! If we ever get into that area again we will definitely stay at the KOA! The pool was great and we couldn't help noticing that staff members were always working around the camp ground the entire time we stayed.

The drive into SF isn't all that bad, it's just over thirty miles, all depends on what time you head south as to how long (and nasty) it will take you to get into SF.

Don't forget Lake Chabot - it's in Hayward/San Leandro, and probably on the wrong side of the bridge, but it's got full hookups in a non-urban environment.

I've driven by the Marin RV one, and it didn't seem very nice from 101..

I'd suggest that the OP look at some of the various threads created for camping in and around San Francisco already. I've made a link for you.

We liked Treasure Island in South San Fran -- right near the BART and Costco. Just an urban parking lot, but it gets the job done.

We're staying in Half Moon Bay at the state park and visiting San Francisco. It is not "close" but as close as the Petaluma KOA which is VERY nice also!

X2 on the Petaluma KOA, which won an award as KOA of the year a few years ago. Stayed there once on a trip up north. Lots of stuff for kids too if you have little ones. Not much in SF.

as you said, your choices are VERY limited.
and none are that close, except SF RV resort in Pacifica.

Our daughter lives in San Fran and when we visit we stay north at Santa Rosa Fairgrounds. Nothing fancy but very reasonable.

We've driven down to Larkspur, parked the car and hopped on the ferry for a scenic ride to Fisherman's Wharf. There we met a small van tour company. We don't typically like to take tours and especially would never do one in a large bus but this one is a small van and the guide was very knowledgeable.

San Fran Tour

We spent a very pleasant day with them touring the highlights of the city and then the Golden Gate to Sausalito for lunch and back to the Wharf. Then we took the ferry back to the car. It's an excellent way to see the city. Then if you want to explore in more depth you can drive in on your own.

Might try San Mateo Event Center. We stay there when doing events at the Center but it looks like they take outside RV's now too. Basically just a parking lot with hookups. Also can stay at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in the east bay.
