Santa Fe, NM RV Parks and To-Do's

Howdy,
Any recommendations for a full hook-up park in or close to Santa Fe, NM? We are planning to arrive there Aug. 18 and stay for a week before heading home to Central Texas. Any other Santa Fe recommendations to do while there are also encouraged.

Charming, we just set up in Santa Fe Skies. There are lots of open slots at the moment, however they do tend to fill for the weekend. We were fortunate, it was raining when we pulled in, but cleared long enough for us to get set.

No need to be in doubt. They have always been able to accomodate us, but I always call ahead. I can't recall a time when we were unable to get a site, though I am sure there may be times of special events when they may be full.

I stayed at Trailer Ranch, as they were open year around and I was there early January. They don't allow kids (21 and up), and the place is mostly a trailer-park and only small portion is "campground" ... no complaints about my stay - they had electric, cable tv and hot showers. Water was turned off at the site but available from an out building. They're pet friendly with a fenced in dog park past the trailer-park section.

If you ever watched the Longmire series on Netflix, Walt's cabin is in the Valles Caldera. You have to stop at the visitor center to get the free permit to go on up to the cabin.

That would be a great trip. Call me jealous as I've hung out in all of those places, except for Red River but have driven through there, multiple times. And fully agree with the user who said to stay in Angel Fire RV Resort if in the Angel Fire area or looking to be fairly close to Taos. Beautiful new RV park.

We go three or four times a year and love Santa Fe Skies, For several years we stayed at Trailer Ranch, but were delayed getting in one time so could not get in before the office closed. That was when we discovered Santa Fe Skies, lovely views, large clean restrooms, and big pull thrus although there are some back in sites as well. Some favorite restaurants are Maria’s, Il Piatto, Boca, Harry’s Roadhouse (great brakfast and dinner), Clafoutis for breakfast. Can’t remember the name of it but there is a great restaurant in Madrid heading out of town the opposite direction from Santa Fe as you round the curve. It is across the street from the Mine Tavern. There should be something going on in the square in Santa Fe on the weekend, there usually is in the summer. Others have hit most of the activities. We also enjoy the art out on Canyon Road, you can easily spend the better part of a day wandering through the galleries. Have fun!

In Santa Fe we have stayed at the KOA as well as Santa Fe Skies... I'd probably go with the KOA out of those...

In the Taos, Red River area: We stayed at Angel Fire RV Resort.. If you need full hookups: this is about as good as it gets. We loved it. We also stayed at Elephant Rock, which is a NFS campground just a bit west of Red River. No hookups, but it great!

Lots of great ideas. Our favorite park is Santa Fe Skies--easy to get to, nice walking trail, great sunsets, close to Santa Fe Brewery, nice pull thrus. But it can get windy--don't leave your awning out if you leave. There is a great walking tour of downtown Santa Fe run by the New Mexico Museum of Art. Lots of galleries, visit Bandalier NP, great bike trails, go to the Plaza, eat at local places like Cafe Pasquals and Tortilla Flats. If you play golf, the local golf course with a great par 3 is nice. We go to Santa Fe every year and will be back in September on our way back to San Antonio. Any questions, send me a message.

We will be in Taos the week before we visit Santa Fe (as we've concluded that one day in Taos is never enough time for us the past couple of years), and will be in Red River, NM the two weeks prior to our week-long Taos visit (coming from two weeks on the Arkansas River below Salida in CO).

X2 very close to downtown. Nice park. We visit often as our son lives in Santa Fe and have found this most centrally located for all destinations.

Howdy!

We stay at Roadrunner RV Resort. It has large pull throughs and several casinos we enjoy eating at while there. Short drive to Santa Fe, LosAlamos, Bandelier National Monument , San Ildefonso Pueblo and others. Great shopping on the square in Sante Fe. Takes day trip and drive up to Taos.
Another unique little town to drive out to is Madrid where to movie “Wild Hogs” was filmed.
