Seasonal Florida RV parks

We are planning to retire next year. I have a permanent site in western NY on Chautauqua Lake. I plan to get a Park model next year to provide us more room.

Now I had planned to sell my Holiday Rambler fifth wheel, but I am now wondering if it is cost effective to move that RV ( I don't have a way to tow it) to Florida for use for the Winter months.

Has anyone permanently moved their RV to a warm weather site like Florida to just use it for 2-3 months and sitting idle the balance of the year? If so, what was the park?

Would love to see if anyone could make this a cost effective process versus selling the RV outright and staying at a snowbird type place for the winter.

Thanks to all who respond.
  • You can own a lot in Florida and have it sit year round if you choose. The site owner parks are all over the place. The selling of paradise for parking lots has been in progress for many years.
  • Yeah people keep their RVs in Florida year around. RV owners can pay for storage at some parks during the summer months or at a storage facility nearby. I've been told that there are services that provide moving to and from storage to your site at a specific park. I know several people in our park, Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River, FL, that do exactly what you've mentioned doing.

You need to check with parks in your geographic areas of interest. In some cases older RVs may not be allowed, although there are plenty of parks that will allow well taken care of units.

Obviously you'll need to find someone to tow your 5th wheel down if this is what you want to do. Good luck!
