We are traveling the Southern US and wondering what Points of Interest there may be in Galveston and Corpus Christie. We have already traveled the southern route through Mississippi and Louisiana heading West.

I go to Galveston maybe one out of five times that I have to visit Houston. I like to look at the beach, visit the historic areas, and visit the air museum. Most of the time, however, I find much more to do in Houston.

Corpus Christi to me is just another mid-size city that has sprawled into the surrounding countryside to be a mid-size metropolitan area, too young to have the historical attraction of other similar size port cities like Mobile, Savannah, or Wilmington. I drive through Corpus Christi to get to the barrier islands, Mustang Island and Padre Island, which for me are the real attractions. I prefer to go north onto Mustang, into Port Aransas. Others like South Padre.

I've got to admit that when I got to Texas, in the mid 80's, I drove down to Galveston. Looked around and said to myself "What the hell was Glenn Campbell singing about???"

I think it's worth a visit for the history.

We spend a lot of time in Corpus these days - so I'd vote to give that a visit too.

I've been to Corpus Christi twice. The first time was aboard the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, although we never tied up. We weren't allowed to. The Commanding Officers got into some sort of hissy fit.
The second time, I was a civilian and the Lexington was then a museum. I remember thinking at the time that Texas doesn't raise cattle - they raise oil wells.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

First--the Gulf Coast and the Texas Coast are not the Washington Coast line with mountains, etc. But having seen both and only live 150 miles from Corpus, I like the Texas coast in the fall. Birding in Rockport is very good--get a map from the visitors center on where to go, great gulf seafood--different from Washington seafood, Port Aransas is a nice small coastal town with several good RV Parks, and Corpus has a bigger city feel. Enjoy the time there.

Corpus has more, especially if you include Port Aransas and Padre Island where you can drive on the beach and cross over on a TDOT ferry.

Depends. Where are you coming from? Galveston has history and is close to NASA. Corpus has much better beaches and is a stop on the way to the Rio Grande Valley.
