Site information for Douglas Dam Tailwater Campground

I've never stayed in this campground near Sevierville, TN, but have wanted to during my trips to SC. I really don't like to reserve but it's almost full already for my travel date in a couple of weeks, and I know this area is very popular in the fall.

They have no electric left, but have sites 33 and 37 suitable for an RV to camp dry. Their Facebook page and other searches don't show photos of the sites toward that section, so I'm wondering if anyone can give feedback on these sites, or if you have any photos. Thanks.
  • Can't comment on Tailwaters, but Headwaters is one of my favorites. Any site in the cul de sac along the lake is great.

Thanks for the feedback. I checked there as well.
They only have sites 36(B) and 61 open. I know 61 isn't on the water, and am not sure how much waterview 36(B) has. Not sure what the "B" represents either.

I'll bet the B site is an extra site squeezed in between 36 and the edge of the river. Cannot see these sites from Google Satellite and they don't have street view (many Federal and state campgrounds do have street view now).

61 is a host site, and has sewer, water, electric, Don't look like a bad site either.

  • With the lake drawn down now at winter pool the lake front sites aren't anything special this time of year..... now when I was there this summer mooring my boat right behind my camper was fantastic.
  • Drove thru both campgrounds about a week ago. The tailwater campground is not as nice as the headwater campground. At the Tailwater campground, sites 33 & 37 are listed as tent sites with no electric. Sites 36 &37 are the last sites at the end of the camping area road. I think they back up to a fence. The campground consists of a long road with most of the campsites between the road and the river. There are some sites on the right side of the road away from the river. Some of the sites are very small and awkward to get into. Sites with electric are 30 amp. Sorry no photos.

Ya, I studied it for a couple of years from Google Maps. I realize I won't have an electric site, but thought it would be nice to camp by the river. I will arrive at almost dark and leave early. I have a teardrop so small and/or awkward isn't bad and I can use the tent sites, although 33 on the reservation site is listed as RV but without hookups. Maybe I will just skip this park altogether. Was hoping for photos, as those sites don't show well on aerial of Google maps.

We stopped there a few years ago - enjoyed our stay. You can find pictures and comments at Douglas Dam Tailwater.

Well thanks. Unfortunately I made reservations last night for Cove Lake State Park. Maybe another year. I just prefer to camp by water :)
