Slide-Outs @ Walmart

I see mixed reviews/thoughts on this.

I am considering my first Walmart overnight stay on this trip, will definitely call ahead.

With 6 people at night, the RV is almost unusable without putting out the slideouts. I can't jackknife the sofa, and the bunks are mostly closed off.

I'm not looking to camp, just park, run in for supplies, eat, sleep, and then head out early in the morning.

My sentiments exactly. Why is it some people want to tell everyone else what they should and shouldn't do?

Because the few will ruin a good thing for all. So everyone has an interest in keeping a good thing going. Walmarts are now dropping the perk, because it's been abused. There is no reason Walmart should have to get police involved and evict people who 1. Decided to live in Walmart and 2. Decided to store their camper there instead of paying for a storage place. 3. Disrupt there business. 4. Damage their property with jacks and the list goes on to showering in the parking lot, dumping tanks, etc, etc...

I've been annoyed with Rvers at my local walmart who thinks it's okay to put slides out and block roadways.

It's a matter of respect and not to take advantage of something that is given.

Complete and total BS. You just can't stand someone doing it different than your perceived rules. There are no rules for Wal-Mart camping...get over yourself. While your at show proof that jacks down and slides out by Wal-Mart campers caused them to stop the "privilege".

Your reading comprehensions is pretty poor, I suggest you go back and re-read before "demanding" proof. Blocking roads is a pretty universal "rule". :S

People who say, "There are no rules for Wal-Mart camping" are part of the problem.

It's ok to admit you can't show proof...we all know you can't. While your at it... show Wal-Marts rules for camping at their stores...that's right you can't do that either. There are no rules for Wal-Mart camping, face it.

SO who has actually called WM and asked if it was ok to Camp in their lot? You probably asked if you could spend the night and get some rest in the lot? Two different things,, But hey sunshine,, you see the opportunity,,might as well be comfortable right? Go for it,, whats the worst that could happen!
Oh my they are actually getting fed up with the lot campers and vagrants??
Yeah 8-12 hours black topping it,,,,Your camping butter cup!!
Some one is enjoying more amenities than they should, Who's actually gonna check?
Same as slipping a booger under the table or some gum,,No one Ever looks under there!!

Why are you so adamant, demeaning and rude, resorting to name calling and nasty language over an issue as mundane as staying overnight in a Wal Mart lot?

What kind of axe do you have to grind? Why do you care? Why are you so zealously evangelical in your hatred of those of us who do stay a night in Wal Mart?

There is an underlying problem here for sure...but it's not with those of us who choose to stay at a Wal Mart now and then for some very good reasons...the problem is with you.

Fee Fie Fo Fum I smell the blood of an upset RV Park owner.

Well I spent a lot more than $1600 at Walmart last year, and I didn't sleep in the parking lot a single night! Moreover, I cannot imagine what's going on in the head of somebody who thinks it's okay to sleep in their parking lot and yet doesn't consider Walmart their "preferred store for shopping". Just your preferred store for sleeping? What about panhandling?

If Walmart wants you people sleeping in their parking lot--and you're not too proud to do so--that's their business. But to sneer at the idea of shopping there without sleeping there is just bizarre.

Believing this thread closed, I started a similar thread with photos of the Wal Mart parking lot full of RV's in Whitehorse, Yukon and thoughts about Why people stay at them vs the RV Parks.

And just WHY are some so ADAMANT about whether folks should stay at Wal Mart or not?

Check out the photos in the other thread.

As far as I can see the ONLY people NOT benefiting from RV'ers parking at Wal Mart is the RV Parks. Certainly the City, Wal Mart and the RV'ers are all benefiting.

We do it all the time when we are travelling from one place to another. We always need groceries or whatever and certainly do not need a full hookup campground for an 8 - 12 hour overnight stop. The store always profits from our stay and we never leave a mess or take up parking spaces near the entrances. It is a win-win situation. And yes, we put out the slide and have been known to set up the dish in "stealth" mode (between the MH and tow car where it is not noticeable).

I just checked and see we spent $1,600 at Walmart last winter. Almost all of this was because we were parked there anyway as Walmart is not normally our preferred store for shopping.
