Spring Break camping with Kids

It may be a little further than you wanted to go, but James Island County Park outside of Charleston is fabulous. We went for spring break last year and our daughters, then at age 5 and 8, absolutely LOVED it. They have lots of bike trails, a huge open field (where our little one learned to ride without training wheels), a seasonal water park (not open during March), It is 10 minutes from downtown Charleston and about 10 minutes (depending upon traffic) from the ocean at Folly Beach. Inside the park, there are lots of opportunities to fish (even for children).

That is definitely further than we would like to go for this trip but I will add it to my list here for sure to check out for our longer trips! It looks like a very nice place. Thank you for the suggestion.

With so few days you're really limited in destinations. Most campgrounds open on April 1st. My suggestion is check the distances of cg's (rvparkreviews) you like and make one of those your choice. Keep in mind in Kentucky it's still going to be cool during the days and colder at night especially close to the Ohio. Good luck.

When are you going? Six Flags in St Louis opens on 4/5 and there is a KOA about a mile from there.

I didn't mention this in my earlier post, but how about the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area? That should be within your 6 hour limit. I think it'll take about 5 hours, according to which part of L'ville you are in.

It has plenty to do, both outdoorsy and commercial stuff. Dollywood will be open by then, they usually open first couple weeks of March. Weather may or may not be good, but usually it's at least 50ish during the day and maybe 30s at night. There are many, many campgrounds there with different activities available. Our favorite is Pine Mountain RV Park. It is a bit pricey, but it has indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river pool and a huge hot tub. Wonderful individual shower rooms if you don't want to use yours. It's right in the middle of the action, but is off of the bypass so you don't get all the noise. It gets great reviews and they are well-deserved.

I would suggest Williamsburg, not so much for the history, but Busch Gardens is the greatest place for kids in the central Atlantic.

Have you been to French Lick Indiana? Not sure if Holiday World will be open for your timing, but they do have an indoor water park, and other interesting things that the kids might like. French Lick, IN

x2 for the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Especially within the distance you want to drive. Unless you can make it to the gulf coast in that amount of time. Then I would recommend that.

Agree with Pigeon Forge area, there is lots to do, although I was not impressed with Dollywood. If you can get to Williamsburg go for it. Colonial Williamsburg always has good programs going (and kid-friendly ones) both indoors and outdoors. Don't over look Jamestown and Yorktown. Busch Gardens - yes.
