State Parks near Anaconda, MT

Planning to spend a few days near Anaconda, DH really enjoys the golf course there. I see that there are three state parks near there, would love to know which ones would have sites that would work for a big rig. Need good maneuvering room for our 36 ft. fifth wheel. Of course natural beauty is a big consideration also, hopefully there is one that meets both criteria. Also, is there any good fly fishing nearby? Thanks so much for any advice.
  • Thanks for all the good info, surely appreciate it, didn't know about non resident fees, so am glad you told me about that, pfida. Craig is on our list, thanks so much for the confirmation, jgrimes. Georgetown Lake sounds great, will check it out!
  • Hey, Texas Road Runner. I too endorse the fishing around Craig - my favorite fishing spot in MT. Great float fishing just below the dam down to Craig. Some rustic (and limited camping) at Craig and below the dam. If you're looking for a more developed RV Park, I'd recommend staying at the Lincoln Road RV Park on the north end of Helena. Helena is a fun place to visit (state capitol/good restaurants)and then you're 30 minutes or so from Craig on the I-15.
  • forest service campgrounds west of anaconda on mt 1,georgetown lake is about 20 miles beautiful place good fishing, several cg around lake.we have heard elk bugle this time of year have a great trip ken
  • The only state park I've been to in that area is Lost Creek State Park. The road in, near the campground is a narrow one-lane road. It is paved until the campground entrance. The spots seemed long enough for a 35' to me. The area is gorgeous though as the campground follows the valley floor.

What turned us off to the campground the most has nothing to do with this campground specifically. The nonresident fees for MT state parks are too much in my opinion ($25 for no services). We seek out FS campgrounds a little farther out which suit our needs better.
  • Wow, great info on Craig, has us adding another stop on our trip. Sounds wonderful, thanks, and the watering hole sounds fun, too!
