Stone Mountain State Park, NC & Ridge Rd COE Campground, GA

Made reservations this morning for the next two weekends! woohoo!

This coming weekend, we will be staying at our favorite campground, Stone Mountain State Park in NC.

And then the following weekend, we will be traveling towards our hometown (Augusta, Georgia) to visit parents and will be staying out at Ridge Road Campground (a COE campground on Lake Thurmond). We haven't been to Ridge Road since probalby 2000 or 2001. We did go to Petersburg COE across the way a couple years ago and decided on a change this time.

Have a trip planned to Cades Cove (GSMNP) the first weekend of October. Hopefully we can get some trips in during August and September as well. Probably up on the BRP. So far, since getting the motorhome on June 1st, we have camped 17 nights in 3 different parks. Before June 1st, we camped I think 5 nights. I'm having less trouble of getting the wife to camp with the motorhome than the TT...lol
  • Learn something new every day. I thought the only Stone Mountain was in Georgia and I've been there, but Stone Mountain SP is in NC.
  • I've passed Stone Mtn SP on Hwy 21 numerous times en route to Sparta where I camp at a friend's cabin on the New River. Looks like a super park and certainly is in a scenic area. Ridge Rd. or Petersburg... you can't go wrong with either park. Enjoy your trip.
  • Ridge Road has some large nice sites, but they aren't paved like Petersburg. Lake levels should be up after the widespread rains of the last several weeks.

And we don't have a laser show at our SM SPark :(
  • Cade's Cove is about as natural as it gets. Cool little store and grill there too. Not far from Gatlinburg either. Looking forward to Stone Mountain one day.

Yeah it's been probably 13 or 14 years since we've been to ridge rd. I grew up in Augusta since I was 8 yrs old. Left when I was 19 and did my 4 yrs in the Air Force and then returned back home there at 23. We moved from there to Massachusetts for a year when I was probably 33. Stayed there a year before moving to nc 9 yrs ago. Lake Thurmond (I prefer to call it Clark's Hill) was a big part of my life. My wife too. Hr parents owned a couple different homes on it over in the Modoc, SC area. The last one they just sold was right across the cove from Modoc Campground.

Lol.. And it's probably a good thing. Too many people.

It's been about 13 years since we've been to stone mountain in Georgia. We used to go for the yellow daisy festival. My daughter really has never been to Atlanta to visit. We need to make a trip there had let her see a bunch of the stuff and not miss the laser show.
