Kentucky Horse Park has its own campground. Have stayed there. Nice although you only have electric and water hookups. Easy access to nice dump stations. Also easy access to the park. If you camp in the campground you can get discount to the park. Will take a while to walk around the park.

We stayed one night at the KY Horse Park campground in June. Great campground for kids. There is a pool, tennis court, etc. There are things to do and see at the Park.I wish we would have known about this park when the kids were young. Most people had their golf carts with them. I guess to go back and forth from the KY Park. They were everywhere! They are quiet and you don't realize they are right behind you when you are out walking.

It's actually called the Kentucky Horse Park and the Kentucky Horse Park Campground is right next door.

Creation Museum? There are some evolution museums that are interesting. The Chicago Museum of Natural History comes to mind. Great museum in fact.

We stopped on our way from the Smokies back home to MI. Great stop. Easy driving off the expressway and tons of parking. No fuss. My son was 11 at the time and looked at every.single.plane. Took hours but he loved it.

If you like museums, stop at Greenfield Village and The Henry Ford in Dearborn, MI. You'll need a day for each if you have the time.

We stayed there for a night otw back home but it was in the winter. It's right off the freeway. I bet it would be fun in the warmer weather.

This is for a site, not a campground. I recommend stopping at the air museum in Dayton, OH. It's free to get in and they have parking for rv's. museum

We snowbird from Michigan to Florida every year for the last 14.....Here is a route we enjoy.
From Michigan:

Nashville..great place to spend a few days on the ride down. Grand Ole Opry, Opry Mills, and downtown honkey tonks, General Lee dinner cruise.. Music Valley Drive has 3 nice campgrounds. Two Rivers, KOA and Jellystone. Shuttles from all three to the major attractions.

Next we shoot over to the Knoxville area: Dollywood for the kids, lots of touristy stuff but also great hiking and touring in the mountains and foothills....many many campgrounds.

One year we went Memphis to Nashville to Florida.

In Kentucky you can stop at one of the many caves in the area for a day trip and many of them have campgrounds adjacent or very near. Mammoth cave is cool and so is the one you take a boat thru...can't remember the name.

Chattanooga has a great aquarium and a trip up to Rock City is worth it while your there. I think the campground we stayed at was Holliday which is on a civil war battlefield and burial ground.

In Michigan the UP is beautiful! I prefer to travel up US-23 to the mackinaw bridge and over. There are great state parks all along the shoreline and lighthouses to tour. Many small all american towns and not nearly as "touristy" as the west side of the state. I think Mackinac Mills campground is on the lake also with a spectacular view of the bridge and mackinaw island....which by the way is an absolute must. Take the ferry to the island and spend the whole day. No cars just bikes and horses and buggies. A real piece of american treasure. Don't leave out a boat tour of Pictured Rocks in the U.P.

BTW....taking the Nashville route vs. I-75 is about a 30 minute difference in time between Michigan and Florida. Done it both ways, straight up 75 and the detour to Nashville then back up to 75 or I-69
