Taos, NM campground advice

Hello. I hope everyone is having a great summer!! We are already planning our trip for next spring / early summer. We are considering staying a few nights in Taos, New Mexico. Can anyone advise on a nice place to stay near Taos that is big rig friendly?

Thanks,
Chris
  • I recommend Santa Fe Skies for Santa Fe. Only drove up to Taos--so no recommendations for Taos!
  • Speaking of eating . . . We always enjoy Michael's Kitchen, but you can't stop with your RV--parking is tight.

We used to look forward to a little place called "Roberto's" but that has been long closed. (It was across the street from Kit Carson Museum, but back from the street in a shady walkway.

If you go on down to Santa Fe, we recommend Ranchos de Chimayo, in the village of Chimayo just off the old "high road to Taos."
  • We liked Taos Monte Bello last October. It just is a little bit away from the town, so it is quiet, nice views of the mountains at sunset and the occasional hot air balloon passing by. But very quick and easy to reach everything you'll want to see.

The woman (owner, i believe) who greeted us gave a very good briefing on sights and marked a map, which made it easy to find things. The office building has a coupe of nice, clean restrooms and a washer & dryer. Sites are gravel.

If you like southwestern food, eat at Orlando's. Great combo plate with red and green chile.

Our preference is the Taos Valley RV Park. We stayed there in June. Wonderful sunsets!

we loved it there - nice folks a good location

checked out the KOA down the street we liked this better

OOPs that would be Silver City not Taos
  • Ah, Taos doesn't have a KOA. It does have a couple of other RV parks that I didn't bring up in my post above, but they're, ah, well, how to put this? They're not to many people's taste.

You may be thinking of Santa Fe, which does have a KOA.

  • Second the motion for Monte Bello RV Park. Make sure when you reserve you tell them the size rig you're bringing. They tend to try to match your size to their site size.

  • Either Taos Valley RV Park (south side on Este Es road off of Paseo del Pueblo Sur) or Monte Bello RV Park (north side, on Highway 64 on the way out to the gorge bridge).
