What do you do.

So we're here on the couch thinking about warmer weather,it's been quite cold the past week. If everything works out right, we will hopefully go south for a couple months next winter. What do you guys do to pass the days? I'm guessing there are some that boondock and more or less by yourself, but what about the ones in campgrounds? Are there activities to keep you busy everyday? Do you end up around the same people every year and hang out together? For the most part we are in the house for the winter, the wife has had three back surgeries so we don't get out a lot in the winter. It would be nice to be around other folks and enjoy life. It's not bad in the summer but boy the winters can be long

Our plan is to be in Florida next winter. We've called over 20 RV parks and resorts. None of them will take reservations until April at the earliest. Many have said they offer stays for next winter to those that are there this winter first. Then everyone else has the opportunity to book until they are full again.

We spend 3 months in San Diego during the summer. The RV resort has planned activities both inside the park and to venues outside the park. Personally I use the time to decompress since I work during the week and visit my DW on the weekends. I do take 2 weeks off at the beginning and a week off at the end but some of those days are spent setting up and tearing down our 5th wheel & spot.

I do golf with some of the other rv'ers and I spend most evenings in the pool & spa.

"Down time" has been quite a problem for me; less so as I get older. Assume you are referring to when in campgrounds. We try to get in 1 good walk of 40 min. or more each day. Read, watch too much TV if available, sit outside a lot, weather permitting. We check out the surrounding area and attractions with the car we tow. Always Walmart, eat out once or twice a week. Campgrounds are unpredictable when it comes to making friends. Sometimes make friends right away, sometimes never. Campgrounds with open spaces are best rather than ones where you are isolated from neighbors with vegetation. Winter's short days are tough because you camp to be outside.

Many of the private parks post their monthly activity calendar on their website. If you find a park that interests you this is the time to check it out as the January/February/March calendars in the south usually have a lot more activities on them than the summer months.

Best advise! A lot of people up north say "have a great vacation". I used to explain that it's not a vacation it's just living in a different place. Eventually I stopped explaining and say "Thank you".

Good advice, relax enjoy life. Find out what is going on around the park your in. Talk over a cup of coffee and realize this is the best time of your life. Do your due diligence and see what is going on locally.

If you are looking for a community, go for the snowbird parks (florida, arizona south texas), they have tons of activities planned.

If you want to be alone, boondocking is an option.

We're fulltime 9 years. Our plan when we started is what we've been doing since then. We volunteer about 8 months a year 4-5 in the south in the winter and 3-4 somewhere cool up north. DW and I both volunteer usually 24 hr each wife prefers interpretive work and I do maintainance. But there are many job that are available, clerical, visitor centers. Nice part is meeting people with simular interests. We did take one winter off and planned to drive I10 from Jacksonville to Quartzsite stopped at all the Escapee parks along the way as well as several state parks and USACE parks.
