What's USA travel like this week (Thanksgiving)

We'll be crossing the border at Detroit on Thursday. Somebody pointed out that's American Thanksgiving. We usually stay in one or two Walmarts but now I'm wondering what it's going to be like - will the lots be jammed with xmas shoppers?

Planning on stopping at Tom Sawyer's in West Memphis for the weekend.
  • Walmart is offering big sales all through Thanksgiving so the parking lots may be full or management may restrict RV parking to allow room for shoppers.
  • OP here: DOH! First I didn't even think about Thanksgiving then I got the wrong week. Must be getting (more) senile.

We'll be out in Flagstaff AZ by then where we plan to stay at campgrounds. I'd better phone to see who is open. I already checked to make sure GC South Rim is open (it is).
  • The 4th thu is not 'till next week. Thanksgiving is more then a week away.
  • Personally, I do not travel on major holidays. I have found over the years that it is not worth the fighting the traffic. JMO.
  • You should not have any problems with traffic on Thursday. Traffic will build later in the day as people head to dinners. Park out away from buildings at Walmart. Rest Area's should be almost empty at night.
Just to clarify. Our holiday is next week Thursday. November 28th. Have a safe trip.
  • If anybody has any sense at all they will be stuffing their faces with turkey, taters, gravy, cranberry, deviled eggs, green bean casserole and pie then watching football vs driving around or jamming the parking lots.

They can play them stupid marketing ploy shopping stents late that night or next day.
  • Is the American Thanksgiving also Black Friday the biggest shopping day of the year?

Happy Thanksgiving to all our US friends.
