Where to go with grandkids

I'll also second the motion on Knoebel's Grove (in Elysburg, PA). A great old-fashioned park that charges no admission fee - you pay only for the rides you want to ride, so if Grandma & Grandpa just want to sit and watch the kids have fun it doesn't cost you anything. Food is good and reasonably priced. There is a CG attached to the park but it is electric only. There are some full service CG's nearby.

Hershey Park is nice, too, very modern and more expensive.

We also liked the Jellystone Park near Luray Caverns. We no longer patronize Jellystones (long story) but there is stuff for kids to do right in the park, including a small waterpark. If you have time for a good day trip from the Luray area, drive over to Cass WV and ride the Cass Scenic Railroad. Enjoy & safe travels.

Any state or federal park that has any body of water. Kids love to swim, fish, tube, etc. (as do adults).

If you're up for a bit further drive ( probably 7 hours from DC, my kids always loved Lake Dunmore Kampersville in Vermont. Activities all day for the kids, a lake with row boat and pedal boat rentals, lots of kids riding bikes together. My kids been going there since 4 years old, now in their teens and still love it

Come to Pigeon Forge. You have Dollywood, which has a water park too, and dinner shows and museums, the aquarium in Gatlinburg plus the Great Smoky Mountain Nat'l Park for a bit of nature and history. Lots of RV parks to choose from. The area has something for all ages.

With caution, I'd second the suggestion of Hungry Mother State Park. I was there and really enjoyed it, but I was about 10 years old at the time. I camped in a tent with my parents. They worked their tails off while I "explored", dragging either my Mom or Dad with me. At that age, I thought I was Davy Crockett, Jr. I even had a coon skin cap.
Keep in mind that this all happened 60 years ago and I haven't been back, so no updated information. Or coon skin cap. :)

Any lake....Grandkids love lakes and fishing, even just boating. We have so much fun. Cool life vest, fun snacks and I let our 4 year old grand daughter drive a pontoon boat. Special Times!!!!

Sherando Lake is a forest service campground between I-64 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Loops B & C have large sites with electric hookups.They have a nice lake and swimming beach. You are about 10 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of their visitor centers is about 18 miles from the campground.

Rocky Gap state park and Deep Creek are two mountain locations that come to mind.

Williamsburg and Biltmore are two more.

There is always DC - I've taken both my boys hundreds of times as they grew up and now take the granddaughters when they come to town.

But June is a great time to go to the BEACH - we've been doing it for 50 years and it never gets old.
