Where to stay

Looking at wanting to stay in St Augustine Fl in March of 2014. State park is not available so where is a good place to stay close to the historic sites?
  • The parking garage is about the ONLY place you'll be sure to find a spot to look around the old town. Traffic is tight all day but I got a map and after studying it a few minutes was able to take us to the most interesting spots which have their own parking.

Another thing I would recommend is the Town Trolley if you are interested in historic downtown St Augustine. For about $35 you can use the trolley for 3 days--it has about 20 stops (hop off, hop on) and the tour guides will give you a lot of historical information.

x2 this. Park at The Old Jail too if you have a taller vehicle. The parking garage downtown is nice but low clearance... I was scraping my rack on the second level signs as is has less clearance than the first :E
  • We stayed at North Beach last year--would definitely recommend it. We liked the privacy each site afforded and the beach is just across the street with 2 restaurants within walking distance.

The Fountain of Youth park is one of the trolley stops--the grounds are beautiful--lots of friendly little squirrels and peacocks (a few of the peacocks are solid white).
  • We stayed at Bryn Mawr RV Resort right on the ocean. Short drive into the historic part of town.
  • Just north in Jacksonville is Fort Clinch state park, Kathryn Hanna City park, Huguenot City park, and Little Talbot island state park.

North Beach Camp Resort would be my choice.

We stayed there over Labor Day weekend this year... It's not a bad place, but it is packed and active for sure. The beach access was nice too.
  • Stage Coach RV Park is just a short drive to center city ST Augustine. But the state park is best, keep checking for a cancellation. We volunteered there for two winters and they do get cancellations. Not sure about drive ups anymore.
