Yellowstone campgrounds

We stayed in Madison in 2016 with a 26ft TT. The site was a pull off. I could pull in but had to back out because there was a tree too close to the exit. We did have some extra room at both ends of the site but it kind of depends which site you are in.

As an FYI, may or may not apply to Madison and Grant Village, the threadless faucets are often used where the water is a well that doesn't produce and recover quickly. Often in the west wells only produce a couple of gallons a minute. Depending upon the type of well, the well may only be able to pump 20 or 30 gallons before running dry. Running dry is very hard on the pump and can also lead to excessive sediment being pumped. The idea behind the threadless faucet is it will be used to fill buckets and small containers in intervals, not pumping continuously filling RV tanks, washing rigs or other continually usage, thus making a little bit of water available for everyone. Most of the threadless faucets also have spring loaded handles that shut the faucet off if you don't hold it on, again to prevent continuous usage. Those faucets aren't installed just to make your life harder, they have a purpose.

Please read my OP. I never had any intention of staying hooked up to water, and never assumed the places to get water would be close to my campsite. I'm just trying to determine if there are places to fill up my fresh water tank.

Above all, I always try to be polite in any camping situation in any campground regardless of conditions.

The only campsites with ANY hookups are located at Fishing Bridge RV Park. You can use your water bandit at other campgrounds to fill you tanks but cannot stay hooked up to the water spigot because it is shared by many people.
There are several places to get water in every campground. You can pull up next to the water supply but you may have to move is the road is narrow to let others get through. Many of the roads are one way and rather narrow. Be polite and move is someone wants to get through.

The water outlet may be quite a distance from your site so you may want to add a hose or two.

As for water they officially do NOT want you to install hoses and use hose bibs that have no thread on the end for a hose. However there is a way around this: Water Bandit

Maybe someone that has been there recently will still chime in.

The *ironclad rule* is why I am asking the question. I will have a new 5th wheel by then and the specs say 29'10". That's cutting it close and I think the measurement is from the king pin hopefully. The 40' sites are not available probably because of the pressure of fishing Bridge being closed.

I had a feeling they might not have threaded hose bibs at the water. I will definitely have the fitting in your link. Will be interesting to see if they yell at me for using.

Yellowstone is a great place to camp. Much better than commuting from an RV park in W Ystone. The last time I tried to park my rig, we had to find a different site because there were 27 elk in our spot.

I have stayed at Madison, you camp in a pine forest that has been cleared of some trees. The campground is kind of close together but is very nice. You wouldn't have any problem parking.

I haven't camped in either. But there often is a little slack in RV length, more in some cg than others. As long as your unit does not protrude into the roadway you are usually OK. There are no RV length police with tape measures. But the ironclad rule is that if you cannot get into a space you lose your payment for the site and they will not try to find a spot you can get fit into. Of course enforcement varies by ranger temperament at any particular park. Some are great and some are jerks.

when I stayed at fishing bridge years back, many/most of the spots had a wooden post at the end of the site many/most of them had been backed into

At Fishing Bridge the sites are end to end, like a giant parking lot. Which is what that CG is. And another RV is backed into the site behind you. So they of course do not want you to intrude into the other guys space. It is a parking lot but it has utilities so people want to camp there no matter what the esthetics are. You would also be very close to the people on each side. FB is closed for renovations this season.
