AC vents modification

We recently traded campers and I noticed that the AC vents in the ceiling stuck into the ductwork a little over 1".

I removed a vent and noticed the space between the ceiling and the bottom of the ductwork

I used duct tape to seal the area to prevent any cool air from being lost into the attic space.

I cut the vents down by about 1"

Then reistalled the vents.

I didn't have anything to measure the airflow before or after, but, with just my hand it did feel as if there was better airflow.

Duct tape will dry out when it gets old and should not be used for sealing ducts. You're not going to catch on fire LOL but use this stuff next time:

Any hardware store will have it. Ask for "foil tape".

Considered cutting my vent stacks, just haven't done it yet.

And if you haven't opening the grill on the AC unit and looked how it is sealed hot side to cold side, you probably should. I gained a tone of volume just sealing the unit like it should have been sealed.

Thanks for sharing.

Great job! Our previous coach had duct leaks so bad that cold air was coming out at every light fixture. Like your thinking about cutting vent stack.

Because the were to long and blocking off the air flow.

Thanks, never thought to check mine for the same problem, you would think the makers of these RV's would have notice this.
