In my 2007 Winniebago Voyage there is a small access port in the outside storage just to the left of the entrance steps. It looks like you could run a heavy extension cord through it. On cold evenings my wife likes to run a small 110 heater. If we only have 30 amps, this can cause a breaker to throw. Has anyone added an extra 20 amp indoor plug powered by an extension cord running to the 20 amp plug in the campground power outlet? There is always at least a 30 and 20 in every campground power box. Before I get out the sawsall, am I missing something stupid or dangerous?

I did it too. During the camping season I use it to power the electric water heater (so it doesn't impact the 30A supply) and in the winter I use it for a space heater to keep the RV from freezing.

I ran a second heat pump off an external 20 amp plug. It also was used as a circuit for the small heater, or the blow dryer, or the curling iorn.

I have also ran a separate cord for our electric water heater. a friend of ours has done a rewire and added an plug in box and added a plug to one roof air. this allows them to run both roof air conditioners when on a 30A pole.

I ran one to a surface mount receptacle in my last trailer. Worked great for a space heater. When I traded the trailer in they told me "We'll have to remove that before we can resell the trailer." The new buyer called me with some questions and told me how much he liked the extra outlet.....

I did a similar mod on my prior TT only I cheated a bit. I created/installed an additional cord hatch and simply ran an additional heavy duty 20 amp extension cord from pedestal into RV. I plugged space heater directly into the extension cord as required.

Hi,

I added two auxiliary shore power cords. One is used to power two plugs and the converter. The other powers one plug and the water heater.

I use a system of manual plugs, so I can switch back to OEM wiring in twenty seconds.

I recently added a 20 Amp port. I ran from the port to a two 20 amp breaker box inside the front storage. From the breaker box one output goes into the living area to power an outlet I added for a space heater. The other line goes to the 2nd air conditioner I added to the bed room. By flipping the breakers I can then power the air or the heater. Obviously I shouldn't need both heat and air at the same time but having an additional outlet available for a low draw device will probably come in handy.

I am wondering what kind of loads would require the 30 A to trip?
I've never had the main trip but on occasion the DW hairdryer on the circuit with the ceramic heater has tripped the breaker. I can't think of any real loads that would trip the main.
