Another TV Swap

Like many of you with older RV's I had to replace the TV in our '96 Winnebago. Forgot to snap a picture with the TV in but this gives you an idea.

So rip to the old TV out and all the trim.

I cut out all the old metal brackets and framed with wood. Then marked the areas that need cutting for the new TV.

The original plans were to just cut the old glass doors and re-install them. I neglected to think they might be tempered glass which is impossible to cut. I had to make new door panels. Since we keep the DVD and Directv DVR in those areas I needed something the remote would go through. Using some left over oak and some canning material I made the new doors.

All in all we are quite happy with the results and the new TV is a huge improvement. I mounted the TV with a swing arm so it's able to come out and swivel. The two knobs and wood plate keep it locked in while traveling.

Looks like what I did to our 2005 DP when we could no longer find a replacement for the CRT behemoth that was there. Had lots of extra storage behind the swiveling TV. How did you secure the TV for travel? I just used bungi cords inside and web strapping on the outside for insurance. Always wanted to go to a locking mount of some sort but...good enough was good enough.

When I boxed in the old TV area I built it out just big enough so that when the TV was pushed all the way in it would rest on a shelf.

Then I just used a simple 1/2" piece of oak and put to slots in. At almost any hardware store you can get this nifty little things that screw into the wood giving you a machine thread.

I simply move the board up and lock down the two knobs and we are ready to roll. If your looking to do this, put a piece of felt on the back side of the wood to keep from scratching your TV. Wish I had thought of this earlier :S
