Anyone build a sturdy portable camp cook table?

I need something more sturdy than anything I can buy. I'm sick of wobbly tables! It has to be sturdy to support my 3 burner cast iron stove, 18x24" griddle, and a small propane bbq. So at least 2 x 4'. Anyone have plans or pictures to share?

I think this Stablemate folding sawhorse is about equivalent to my Iowa brand sawhorses. The Iowa horses are rated to 600lb/ea..I also have other metal folding sawhorses and they would also make for a good portable table. This is probably more than one needs for a BBQ or cooking table but would be appropriate for the man who needs the most. :B

I used a military folding table. My father built on like it. I will try to post pictures next week. It works great to hold our grill.

For several years I used a set of the plastic folding saw horses and a 2' X 6' piece of scrap 3/4 plywood. Thought of attaching a pair of 1' X 4' boards to the underside for added strength but after about 12 years of dual use the one saw horse hinge broke. The table components were light and easily packed and transported.
I have since replaced it with a Camp TableI purchased at Sams Club. This table has worked pretty good as a multipurpose table but is a bit on the heavy side at 40 pounds.
Let us know what you decide on and how it works out.

I am thinking something like a Multi-Purpose Aluminum Folding Step Ladder - Scaffold Extendable Heavy Duty, folded into a scaffold, might be an option for your heavy grilling/cooking needs. The one in the link states 39.75"(H) when in its compact dimension so shouldn't be too high for a grill. Only issue might be width, front to back when used as a table, to support the grill. An additional board a rung or two down could be used for extra grilling items.

Can also double for roof access anywhere around your RV 🙂

These seem to be the OPs best bet (and the only actual DIY solution vs. buying a table) as it would allow customization of each leg of the table.

That is basically what we use, also. Works great and we store it in a closet. We put cardboard under the grill to keep the table clean. Burn the cardboard at the end of the weekend. Can't go wrong...

Thanks for the replies but has anyone built something stronger? I was thinking to use folding saw horses and some plywood or pipes threaded into the table bottom so they would be removeable.

I use two of the standard folding wood slat tables. They are stable enough for what use them for... We line up the area next to the OFF-ROAD POPUP under the awning with these tables and the COLEMAN ROAD TRIP Grille, Handy being near the door steps going into the trailer.



Then I also have three or four of these smaller folding wood slat tables to use around the chairs..


Everything packs up good for transport..

Hi,

I use a table with folding legs intended for supporting a keyboard (i.e. musical instrument). It works well as the legs are individually adjustable. It was $25.00 a number of years ago.
