Changing cabinet door for Dish Receiver

We installed our new flat screen TV but had a problem with the compartment the receiver and satellite finder are in. You have to have the cabinet door open, which we will hit our heads on or else with it open you can't open the cabinet to the right. Then, we will forget it is open and take off driving and it will slam shut and make a loud noise and we wonder what broke on the motorhome or what did we hit! So, we thought if we had a plexiglass insert for the sensor to be read it would solve all our problems. We didn't want to ruin the original door - so we tried to duplicate it and if/when we sell the moho we can put the old door back on. Here are our photos.

  • A nice black screen will hide much of that ugly electronics and the IR will work great. Or some nice stained glass. Of course everything is in the eye of the beholder.

I switched to a RF remote for my DTV receiver so the cabinet door remains shut.
  • Looks good. Another option would be to use an IR repeater. We placed the rcvr above the TV and the Xmtr on top of the sat box pointing forward. Then put shiny foil tape on back side of original door to reflect to front of sat box. Only mentioning it here for those of us that don't have your wood working skills. Again great job on your door mod.
