- mookieExplorerI bought the componets but can not find a WIFIAV app for a Kindle Fire. Has anyone found an app that worked for them?
- spoon059Explorer III bought the pieces on Amazon, made up my wiring harness last night and installed it this morning. I've got about $85 into my setup, including power wires, wire loom, camera and transmitter. I bought a 10 meter extension for the RCA cables, I won't need nearly that much so I plan to return it.
For the time being I have the camera mounted to the top of the bumper. At a later date I will see about fishing wire up the back wall to mount the camera higher and give me a better overall view behind me.
I tapped into the trailer wire lights and ran the cords down the drivers side frame rail, zip tying to the frame and tucking the wire loom between the frame rail and the under belly enclosure.
The length of the cable from the camera to the wireless transmitter allows my transmitter to be mounted about 10' from the front of the camper, on the drivers side. While I haven't tested it moving down the road, I get great signal (65mbps) about 100 feet away, inside my house. I'm hopeful that the signal will be strong enough inside my truck with the diesel humming and us cruising down the road.
OP, thank you very much for posting this. I've been wanting a wireless observation system since I researched this trailer, but just could not justify spending $360+ for it. I've got about $85 in this project, I used a $25 gift card that I got for Christmas and I get to return about $12 worth of cable. Ended up costing me $48 of my own money and I am using an old cell phone as the monitor.
Hopefully it works for my intended purpose. I'll try to capture some video to show the quality while moving down the road. - shadows4Explorer III

I like this $0 solution, of course, only $0 if you have the parts already
Before buying a truck with built in camera, I kept an older gopro on a tiny tripod in the truck all the time. Just turn it on, set it under the trailer's hitch looking up and out, and then back right in. Cellphone already lives on the dash as a navigator, so it's easy to pop into the gopro app and watch the video feed.
What did you do for power? I have a GoPro, but the batteries don't last that long and you have to take it out of the waterproof case to charge it, unless they've come out with something that I am not aware of.
It has a battery, I just recharge as needed. It lasts long enough for hitching up or acting as a spotter for backing into a tight spot.
If you want to use as an indoor fixed camera as demonstrated in the first video above, there's no need for the waterproof case. You can get a skeleton or "frame" case for it that exposes the ports. I have an old blackberry charger I used with mine, ciggy plug on one end, mini-usb on the other. - WardsterExplorerJust ordered the transmitter, camera, and windshield mount for my iPad. This is the cheap solution I was looking/hoping for.

It's a link to a youtuber video. If the link is not working, you can visit youtube directly and search for the video title, which is stupidly long...

- spoon059Explorer IIAwesome link, thanks for sharing! I just bought a transmitter, camera, wire and coupler. Ended up being $83 on Amazon, but I had a $25 gift card, so it ended up being just about $60.
I've got a long trip coming up in 2 weeks, this will be awesome if I can get it to work!!! I've wanted a rearview camera, but couldn't justify $300+ for the Voyager system. This would be awesome if it works!!!
