Finally added bunks to our 03 Phaeton
After a lot of procrastination, I finally added bunks to the rear closet of our 03 Phaeton.
I still need to stain it, add curtains, add a light to the lower bunk and maybe find a way to mount their portable video players (actually mounting the video players should be easy, the more complicated part is that I have to add a switch so that I can flip the image since I'll be mounting it upside down).
In case anyone is curious, here are a few pictures. I don't have any with the new mattress (I just used a 3" memory foam topper which I cut to size and it's actually quite comfortable).

For anyone interested in building a similar bunk, it was pretty easy. The structure is pretty much just 2x2s at the corners supporting a rectangular base made of angle iron and a 5/8 sheet of plywood (basically the legs and base form a table over the lower bunk). You can probably get by without the railing or ladder (they don't really add any structural integrity but I wanted them since my kids are younger. I placed the ladder near the middle because there is a engine access panel on the floor of the closet so wanted to make that relatively accessible (although the ladder wouldn't be too hard to remove) and also to access the closet in the curbside corner. As far as mounting it, in our mh, there are steel beams here and there (just use a magnet to find them) and it's super solid in there. The beds measure 66.5" x 25" which is not huge but plenty for my kids (if needed I could make them longer by extending into the shelf area on the curbside).
