Homemade window awning

Thought I would like some window awnings for my dinette and sofa windows to keep the evening sun out. But I looked and saw they would be about $500 for 2 4.5foot awnings from Carefree thru camping world. Being cheap and having a 27 year old class C, I figured I could make one awning that I could put on whatever side the sun was shining on. Used 1 10 foot length of half inch EMT conduit, 1 yard of outdoor fabric from Walmart, a length of 1/2 inch PVC, 2 elbows, 4 rubber cane tips, 4 J hooks, 10 feet of paracord, 2 tent line tighteners.Cost about $25 for everything.

Now those with nice new RVs wouldnt do this, but for those with older units who dont mind attaching some brackets to the side, and are cheap like me, this may be an option! Takes only a minute to put up and maybe 2 to take down and roll up.

OP, did you get any pics yet? Your awning looks great and I would like to build one for the big window to in the rear of my RV.

I've thought about something like this over the rear window of our trailer when it is facing the west on hot summer afternoons. Great idea.

So, you used conduit for the top and pvc for the bottom? Why the difference?

very clever and very good looking. I would bet that 99 percent (can't use the percent symbol on this forum) of the folks driving by would have no idea that this was not a standard RV awning.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

great idea, might work over the reefer exhaust area to keep the area cooler and increase reefer cooling ability during heat of the day. thanks for sharing
