(If there is a link you could send me to for replies....feel free.)

Could you help by showing me WHERE you mount your portable generator, and maybe what you use to cover it when you need to use it in bad weather. Any help, recommendations, would be welcomed.

I keep my genny in the rear seat area of my cab when traveling and place it next to the rear tire on the side where the power cord comes out of the camper. I cable lock it to the rear wheel spokes.

No, the cable lock will not stop a true thief, but will keep the opportunistic amateur from just walking off with it. I sorta hide it by placing a cardboard box over it when not running and a few sticks of fire wood on top of the box to both hold it down and make it look like it's just firewood, not worth the risk of getting caught taking.

Anyone see the Lock Picking Lawyers new videos on cable and bar locks? Small cheap tools from Amazon or eBay break the most expensive locks he could find.

The $30 ratcheting cable cutter went through four loops of thick cable like it was cutting plastic.

On my TC I have a shelf on the back that I strap down and cable lock my Honda 2000. I then cover it with a Honda cover I got from Amazon. If I need it running I either leave it there or put it under the TC. Rain wonโ€™t hurt these things; my firefighter friends use them in the rain all the time. When Iโ€™m pulling my 5th wheel I have both my Honda 2000โ€™s and cable lock and strapped in the bed of my truck. I have a tonneau cover so they can sit under it a little if it rains. I can also lock them below my trailer if I need.

Truck wearing a tonneau cover, with a fan plugged into the genset to ensure adequate cooling, protects the genset in any weather, including heavy rain. :B

Not mounted. I generally put it near the slide out on the drivers side which is right next the the trailer wheels and the shore power cord. If we are leaving the campground, I run a chain and padlock around it and the frame or put it in the garage (Toy hauler). If weather is bad but I need to run it, I put it on the down wind side of the slide out, under it enough to protect it from the rain.

I have one of these on the back. Generator goes on the Lf rear so I don't have to unload to use. I carry a 30amp cord & adapter for gen use, wife made a vinyl cover and it sets on a foam floor mat.

I like the suggestion of put it under a table. Or anything else you already have available. Especially if one rarely uses the generator, why have something extra to carry around such as beach umbrella or similar. If one has a fifth wheel is there a problem with putting under the pin area other than the noise?

Ours is a Champion 3400 watt inverter and the sound is barrable. I opted for a pull start model rather than an electric start to reduce weight. I can lift it into the back seat of a car if necessary. So I've not bothered to come up with a way to secure it when not in use. I just stow it away. Granted, we just bought it and I'm always looking for ideas.

When not in use I cover with those large plastic totes.

If the weather is very bad, heavy rain mostly, the generator(s) go under the rear of the truck.

It's a portable generator, so I don't "mount" it at all. I carry it in a compartment. I pull it out and set it on the ground near the shore cable. A cable and padlock prevents it from leaving home. If rain threatens, I might slide it under the trailer slide, but don't run it under there. If we must run it while raining, I just drape a cover loosely over it to shed the rain. Tarp or piece of carpet.

Mounting a generator takes serious bracing and exposes it to weather and theft.

As for covering in bad weather, I have one of those small white plastic tables from Costco that folds in half. If it rains, I set it up over the top of the Honda. Sometime I just put it under the truck tail gate.
