Just ripped out the carpet...Paint floor?

We just ripped out the carpet of our 5th wheel. Yea! Unfortunately the laminate has been sliced (where they cut the carpet to fit) and it doesn't go all the way to the back wall. We have a few packages of Kronotex smart click flooring, but from reading other posts, using laminate wood might not be the way to go. Has anyone had a good experience with laminate wood? The Kronotex website did mention that their flooring could be glued down. I'm wondering how well it'd work in an RV.

Subfloor is particle/chipboard. I would be perfectly happy to have a painted floor. Has anyone had experience with painting their RV floor?

Thanks!
Debbie
  • only downside I see to laminate is the weight. stuff is pretty heavy, but if you have the spare weight capacity, it's a very good way to go.
  • Thanks, everyone. Your input has been helpful. We've decided to go with the laminate...we have almost half of it laid. It really looks good and hope it will serve us well.

I'm so glad to be rid of the dirty carpet. (we left the carpet in the slide-out, but most of that is covered by furniture)
  • This is laminate plank from Lumber Liquidators, a click-lock plank, floating over a rubber type of underlayment:

Painting your floor might be OK for you but particle board is known to deteriorate alarmingly fast when wet. Painting will help to seal the top surface but I'd suggest to use some type of floor covering.
  • I laid laminate floating 3 years ago and I like it. To me it is the best way to go.
  • Mine is partially floating larger sections and glued down hardwood tiles. No problems with either one (since bout 5 years)
  • I have had laminate on my floor for 6 years now with no problem (not glued, just floating).
