Laundry room in a closet in a Class C

I’m assuming this is a DIY project although I just found and hooked up a small washing machine in our 25b closet. It was a challenge to find one that fit. There are several small washing machines but most are about 17” wide and the closet opening is 15.75. Well turned out at the very bottom it was only 15.5 wide and I had to lift the machine to clear the narrow area and set it back down.
The brand is Laundry Alternativr ordered directly from the company. I put the machine in a bread pan with a silicone liner (dog watering mat) and a rubber pad under that to help keep it steady in the cabinet. If I have to I’ll also use a bungee cord.
It’s 40 lbs so not too heavy. I have not weighed with the install yet but I intend to.
The hookups are to the kitchen sink and it came with a quick disconnect. I just had to order a set of faucet adapters to connect it. I tested it first in the stick house so I needed more than one adapter.

I previously found a small dryer used. It’s an old one with the exhaust sock and pipe right above the machine. It fits nicely in the storage bin under the bed. I have the weight distributed on a couple of 2x4’s that also bring the door up high enough. It fits vertically exactly with the vent above. I have crates in either side so it dies not slide.

Now someone is going to say why bother. Use a laundrymat. Well yuck I don’t like sitting around waiting with little to do when I could be sitting around in a camping chair at our site. Nighttime loads and on the road will be less of a chore. I think it uses about 12 gallons for a full load which is 7 lbs. that’s about an armload of clothes.
So I also bought a dump tank for excess gray water.

I’m pretty excited to go on our 1 month trip with an onboard laundry closet.
  • Great idea. Looks like you had it all planned out good before you started. I can understand the laundromat issue..
  • Nice work for sure. I would hate to loose the storage area in "C" but now you have storage for clothes. Dirty ones in the washer, clean in dryer.
  • I planned it as I went along. Asked for a dump tank for Christmas while I was looking for the washer. Then realized I needed a tray underneath to protect the closet and anchor the machine. Having the closet right next to the kitchen sink made all the connections easier. I think I lucked out finding the exact machine I needed.
  • I do lose storage I normally use for the inflatable boat. But I moved several items to the storage area under the couch. There is a large space there that I had not been using. I also stopped carrying some stuff. Always a good idea.
