LED Strip .. test of time?

I had done the (waterproof) LED strip mod on our last camper that we recently traded in. Over the 3 years, several sections of lights did not function correctly and would usually display a different color than the one chosen. I had bought 2 sets and given one to my brother inlaw who had the same problem.

Is this typical for these sets or did I buy from the wrong Chinese company? How has your set faired over time?

I'm considering doing this mod again on our new camper but don't want to end up in the same place.
  • I found that using a blow dryer on the off colour sections to heat it up nicely and then pushing on the chip/connection point while it cools fixes that problem.
  • Well, our KZ Spree came with a factory installed LED strip in the awning (Carefree of Colorado). Several LEDs stopped working in under a year and the strip got replaced under warranty. Maybe these things aren't the best quality to start with?? Maybe someone makes a high quality LED strip that will stand up to the rigors of being in an RV awning??
