New Linoleum

Everything in our fifth wheel was built on top of the floor coverings. That is why the linoleum can't move with the expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes. So I had to replace the kitchen linoleum that split a couple of years ago and now I am replacing the bathroom linoleum that expanded causing buckles in front of the shower. Yes, I did cut the old linoleum out and there is no sign of water damage so this is just caused by the cold of winter and the heat of summer while stored in our driveway. Wanted to explain how this works.

You are correct; they lay the linoleum down first then slap everything on top of it. Faster that way.

Thank you, explanation noted.

Yep, and you can expect your shower surround to crack because of the same reason. Manufacturers just drill screws right through the plastic surrounds, giving no wiggle room for expansion due to heat and cold extreme temperatures. With no way to expand or contract, the screw holes are always the first place to give, causing all kinds of cracks in the surround. (solution is simple, before screwing the screw in, the surround should be pre-drilled with holes slightly bigger than the actual screws being used. This allows for some wiggle room.

(my current trailer has plastic push button molley bolts holding the surround in place. The holes are drilled out bigger than the actual plastic bolt too. This one hasn't cracked yet. So sad it happened to my previous camper though.

Yes, expansion and contraction of the building materials in any camper without wiggle room is a crack just waiting to happen anywhere in the unit.

Some mfgs use lower quality stuff that will split. Most use material that is more resistant. It has been the industry practice nearly for ever to lay the flooring material first, then walls and cabinets.
