RV Wireless TPMS Systems - which one is preferred

I am presently in the market for the subject system and would like to know which ones are preferred by those of you who have them and why.

I note that there are systems by Tireminder and TST and others (including what appears to be cheaper systems on eBay etc.) but the Tireminder and TST seem to hover around $300+. I don't really have a problem paying the money as long as I buy once, so I want something that does what it is designed to do and for a reasonable lifetime.

I also want sensors with replaceable batteries - not interested in replacing the whole sensor when the battery runs out. I only need 4 sensors since the truck has its own TPMS.

So what say you?

I doubt anyone would be interested in the sensors as they are very specific in use, a TST 507 sensors will only work on a TST 507 system because of the coding. Same with the other TPMS out there. When I changed the tires on my truck last year the kid at the tire store wanted to know how to get the caps off my stems, I had forgotten to take them off. He had no idea what they were. ๐Ÿ™‚

Which one? The metal one? If so you have a bad valve stem and need to put a new core in it. If it's one of the rubber stems, it has probably cracked from the constant whipping back and forth caused by the sensor. Happened on 2 of my old rubber stems.

Yep, the metal one. It leaks where the stem goes into the rim.

Any valve stem can leak. Sounds like you have a bad seal at the rim, or if it leaked from the get go, they used the wrong seal or didn't tighten it down properly, or the seal just went south.

Just wanted to update the thread. I recently completed over 1500 miles in 3 days and the TPMS performed flawlessly. ๐Ÿ™‚

My fix with the fuel line collar over the rubber stems worked perfectly - no need to retrofit metal stems.

It was SOOOOO reassuring to know what my temperatures and pressures are at any time and the whole trip was made with the display unplugged. Battery icon still shows full but I do have the 12V cigarette adapter handy.

Interesting to see the differences between the sun side and the shade side, ambient temperatures and rain.

VERY pleased with my purchase. ๐Ÿ™‚

TST and Pressure Pro have a big following. There are some new kids on the block too. I have the TST with the replaceable batteries. I paid about $250 4 years ago for the package with 4 sensors. So far it's been great. Whatever you do, make sure you install metal valve stems.

I have 3 rubber valve stems and one metal. Guess which is the only that consistently leaks?

all the sensors (regardless of the type: in-tire, or valve stem screw on) are wireless.

the TST DISPLAY has an internal battery - so no power is necessary (assuming the unit is charged). TST's KIT also comes with a hardwire AND a cigarette lighter power plug.

Both the cigarette plug and the hardwire cord supplied with the unit will charge the internal battery.

TST's kit also comes with a dash mount & a suction cup mount - I hardwired mine & used some velcro to attach it to the dash -

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

I bought the TST 507 sensors ($350 for the monitor with 6 sensors). I used 4 sensors on my 38 foot fifth wheel and put the remaining 2 on the inside wheels on the truck rear axle (I have a dually). I have been VERY happy with them. I did not need a repeater to get the signal from the trailer to the truck cab.

As far as customer service, anyone who answered the phone at TST could help me with any questions I had, I didn't have to be transferred. When I was decided which model to buy, I sent an email with a question using TST's website and I received a return phone call from one of the owners!

On the subject of steel valve stems; if you are going to spend $350 for a TPMS, why not spend $5 each for steel valve stems?

all great and valid points. the option for a repeater can make the installation / motor location a bit more flexible too and it could help TT'ers who might have occasional (signal blocking) objects in the back of their pick-up trucks or SUV's.

Again as much distance metal & obstructions i have between my dash and the toad i doubt theres a need....but everyone is different and id rather have the option (to over come marginal signal strength or interference) than not.

One other thing to note regarding repeaters/sensors - I had almost decided I needed to get a repeater when I realized that it had been a while since I had changed batteries in the sensors. Sure enough, the occasional sensor drop was from low battery strength, as opposed to being a repeater issue.

Of course, a repeater would also compensate for low batteries as the signal sent gets weaker and weaker. I do think having the option for a repeater is a good thing.

Good point; I originally bought my TST for my old 25ft trailer. When I moved to the longer trailer, I would occasionally have a problem with the sensors dropping out, indicating the need for a repeater. So I moved the receiver from the console (by the shifter) up to the top of the dash and never had another problem. Placement of the receiver with longer trailers can make all the difference.

the talon is looking good from the standpoint of not having to worry about signal loss or boosters.....

my coach is 42 feet long - the jeep (toad) is behind it....im nearly 62 feet long....
my TST TPMS is a at least 50 (or more) feet from the furthest jeep wheel & i don't need a repeater....BUT its nice to know i have the option (if i need a repeater) !

my point is....every situation is different, I've probably got a lot more objects & metal between my dash and the jeep, than a pickup truck and a 5er....BUT you could have something interfere or have low signal - having the option to ADD a repeater (if you needed it) might be important.

Their hard-wired signal booster is $60 and is normally not needed for up to 30' from sensors to monitor. They also have a battery powered booster. http://www.tpms.ca/HD-BOOSTERS.html

Hawkshead has a system called Talon which has more powerful transmitters in the sensors good for 45-55' and does up to 22 wheels and 180 psi. I see this one is now on sale for $299 (I'm guessing with 4 sensors}. http://www.tvformyrv.com/talon22c-rv-tpms-system/
